The Doctor's Waltz
03:40
|
|||
Once I was lost in a reverie
Once I was lost in a reverie
I went to the doctor and guess what she said
“There’s a lot going on in your head”
So she took out some files from her dusty cabinet
Then showed me the score to a splendid minuet
Once I got lost in a storybook
Once I got lost in a storybook
Page forty-seven had crumbled to dust, and three to eleven were gone
So I tried to imagine how Dr. Fitzwilliam
Would waltz her way out of my dream delirium
Once I was lost in a reverie
Once I was lost in a reverie
I went to the doctor and guess what she said?

Everyone Must Die
06:22
|
|||
We saw the morning sun over the horizon
The starry skies at night, ocean waves arriving
The secrets of the world all laid out before us
That’s the reason why everyone must die
While learning how to speak, we stumbled upon reason
We read the books of God and the rules for how to please Him
Lived through war and peace and went from rags to riches
But like that Russian spy, everyone must die
We know too much about the molecules, the atoms and the particles of matter
So it’s written in the skies: Everybody dies.
Raindrops in the sand, reflections on the buildings
A newborn child’s hand wrapped around your fingers
The question arises why does everybody try to make life linger
When we all can hear it sigh: "Everyone must die"

Late March
04:03
|
|||
I’m watching you from the inside of the clock
I measure every part of the day
And so you’re keeping up the pace
While my hands just tick the minutes away
And as you’re listening to the crackling sounds
On the radio
I just keep keep dragging you around
Right up to the end of the road
So hold on, and be gone as the cuckoo strikes the alarm
And the mockingbird sings
I wish that I could stop myself from misleading you but sadly to me it’s just a habit
When Cinderella leaves the party too late I’ll be taking all the credit
But my dear friend like everybody needs good music
I could surely use it as well
So we’d better make a start on your heart
I’m watching you from the inside of the clock
I measure every part of your day
I know you want to move ahead
While my hands just take the minutes away
So hold on, and be gone as the cuckoo strikes the alarm
And the mockingbird sings
I wish that I could stop myself from misleading you but sadly to me it’s just a habit
For every single step I take you keep on running like Alice's white rabbit
But my dear friend like everybody needs good music
I could surely use it as well
So we’d better make a start on your heart
Put your hands on my hands,
‘till the sound of the pendulum begins to hum
around and round ‘till everyone is gone and everything set back to none
I wish that I could stop myself from misleading you but sadly to me it’s just a habit
When Cinderella leaves the party too late I’ll be taking all the credit
But my dear friend like everybody needs good music
I could surely use it as well
So we’d better make a start on your heart

The Cuckoo
03:12
|
|||
Now the fall has fallen so suddenly
Even all the green leaves are leaving trees
You imitate the rain, but steadily
Turn the present to geometry
Tomorrow will be sung when the cuckoo sings
Yesterday was wrong on what the future brings
You've got the power of goodbye
The force of nature on your side
I feel your eyes looking straight through me
If you weren’t there would I be free?
Or would it be the same?
Ohohohoh
I feel you from the moment the day begins
Until the gravity of my sleep comes in
And all this hazy run and hide
Only ends when she is by my side
Oh yesterday showed me how
We need to let go of what is now
But fairly I don’t understand
The implications your steady hand
Todododo
You're not the one to blame
But neither am I
Now the fall has fallen so suddenly
Even all the green leaves are leaving trees
You imitate the rain so steadily
You've got no heart but you've got honesty

The Sound
02:44
|
|||
Listen to the sound buzzing in your head
We talked for hours, but they seemed like minutes
The light in her eyes, her waving hand
One more birthday, passed my doorway
While hoping for change, the change remained
Listen to the sound buzzing in your head
Windstill windmill, frozen river
The sun in the sky, the pouring rain
Still I wonder what keeps us going
When all we can hear is an aural stain
Listen to the sound buzzing in your head

Time Rag
03:00
|
|||
First part of the day, wrote a belated birthday card to uncle Bart at 9:15
Then I went looking for stamps but felt some morning cereal between my teeth
So back into the bathroom, took a shower and the hours passed
And by noon, I’d forgotten all the things I had to do
To get this song to you
12:30 I’m late, but I’m waiting for some inspiration in the key of C
Suppressing a yawn, and maybe I’m wrong, it seems about time to find something to eat
I’m heading for the kitchen, but alright I like the bedroom too
I don’t know where to go if everything just looks the same
And no one looks like you
I’m ready to go, but I don’t know if I still remember what I am heading for
At the end of the day what can I say, I think it might be better just to fade away
Should we feel sorry after summer, when winter’s perfect to renew the fields?
But what can I say if every day feels so very much the same?
Life, as you know, is just a time rag...

The Doorbell
02:38
|
|||
I would rather leave you a note, but I’ve made up my mind
At the corner of your street the bus stop’s waiting, I am getting out
I would rather talk to you at another rendez-vous but you see the clock is ticking
All the time that passed, my heart was beating fast
Every time I saw your bright eyes
I would rather sing you a song but I’m not a singer
And alas I’m not the kind of man to take you out to dinner
I would rather talk to you, and have a beer or two but I’m not a social drinker
So all I brought is this: my righteous hart, a chance of bliss
And a happy end that’s calling out for you
So now my fingertip moves towards the doorbell of your house
The bell goes bim bam bom, sounds like nothing's wrong
I would rather talk to you, on another rendez-vous but I hear you coming down the stairs
And with your gentle voice, you call your mom and say "somebody's there for you"
