The Accident (and other love stories)

by Spencer the Rover

Carsten Pieper Great "chamber pop" album, chock-full of melodies and fine arrangements. More than once, I was reminded of XTC's masterpiece Nonesuch. Or, likewise, of a certain Paul McCartney (especially in the piano ballads).
Btw, another find I owe to Sven B. Schreiber's amazing collection :-)

Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) My biggest wish come true! Didn't I write, I wished that Koen Renders would re-release his earlier albums preceding "The Late Album" here, too? He really does, and I'm really happy! Once again awesome folk rock with a baroque-pop touch, in total perfection. Hoping for "Spencer Is Your Friend" and the self-titled debut album now... Favorite track: II: Party Dress.

I was nice and neat, when I came to town Shiny shoes, my head up high. I saw her at the other side Of Madeleine Boulevard Oh I remembered well, lovely Annabel I knew her from my days at school I used to act like a fool Whenever she was around So I crossed the street, waving at her Saw panic in her eyes, as I stepped off the curb Then a streetcar hit my side White light, white light When I saw her through my heavy eyes She was calling out my name How could I hear the angels sing When I knew my life was saved? Hallelujah!

Travelling light, Looking for a way to find your heart On trains and planes Sailing boats and driving motorcars Looking for sad songs I'm waiting for you to bring me everlasting Sad songs Waiting for you to bring me everlasting sad songs Sad songs, sad songs Walk the woods, Somewhere there's a place of peace and quite While everyone's Trying to put the sunshine back in my eyes But it's black in my mind And you will bring me everlasting Sad songs Waiting for you to bring me everlasting sad songs Sad songs, sad songs Travelling light, With peace of mind While the rest of us Are trying to find Some sad songs

Stop dreaming, you might think that we still can be friends And no more will I stand at your gate Why can't you see, my love? Last friday, I was up with my head in the clouds And you thought breaking up was a start I'm asking you now, my love How can I go on with you in my life Where everything's wrong? I'm asking you now my lovely one Stop dreaming, it's a waste of your eyes and your mind And before I get on with my life I'm asking you now, my love How can you sleep, my love? I'm asking you now, my love

Oh how strange this life can be Just take a look at me Once I was lonely and alive Now I'm dying but with her on my bedside She's softly speaking to me While she's taking off her party dress And with one last kiss she puts me back to rest Well she doesn't know a thing About the pills and gin I took when she was not around Oh it's no life when your man is just a lame hound And I feel her hand come nearer as my heartbeat is slowing down Annabel she's finally free to move on And I watch her, as she's putting on her party dress And she leaves the house where I drew my last breath When I think about the way we got together on that day...

Heather 02:54
She was in my heart from the day I met her What a heavenly seventh of May The game was love, her name was Heather I would read to her, she would bring me flowers Sang our favourite Dylan songs And we would watch the moon for hours On the first of June, I wrote a long long letter Would you like to marry me soon? You know our love would last forever She said your words are sweet, your conversation's clever But there's someone I'd like you to meet I think that she would suit you better And on our wedding day, August twenty-seven Purple violets did Heather send And Spanish boots of Spanish leather

Sammy Boy 04:01
Sammy look at me, We have to agree that you were out of line this once You knew I wanted her more than any other girl I've ever known Oh sammy boy, how could you think that I would ever let her go Oh sammy boy, I hope you've enjoyed the show Don't you be afraid, although I really hate you For all the things you've done to me, sammy boy Close your eyes, and look up In the sky Where you are bound to be Oh sammy boy, she broke my heart, But you won't have to wonder why Oh sammy boy, be sure she'd broken yours, like mine Darling don't you cry, let me tell you why I could not let him be with you I've hit him on the head, cause I heard what he said Well you were just a flirt to him Oh danni girl, I'm in a whirl Don't ever try to say goodbye 'Cause in your heart, you'll feel the same loss as I

I was walking down the alley, humming on a tune, Minding my own business when I bumped into you There was traffic on the streets, and sun in the sky Now I'm looking in your big blue eyes Annabel, how are you doing, it's long overdue Now should I mention that I had an eye on you When I was just a young boy losing my mind Wasted on your big blue eyes Should I talk about the weather, or buy you a drink Should I say something clever to find out what you think About you and me together, in heavenly nights Staring at the starry sky Now I stand in front of you And no one seems to have a clue Streetcars drive by like railway trains While I fix on your eyes again Now I'm staring at your big blue eyes again And now I don't know how to end "I'm in a hurry, I really have to go Give me a call" she says and mixes with the flow "I haven't got your number" I'm crying out loud So now the story's out Well I never heard from Annabel again So am I lucky there was no accident? I'm in good health but I can only survive Dreaming of her big blue eyes
